If you’re one of those people that are thinking about switching from your iPhone to an Android device based on the many problems you have with the iPhone’s keyboard, you’re not alone. But there’s good news: you might not have to make a change! Introducing Next Keyboard, an iOS virtual keyboard that turns your iPhone or iPad’s onscreen keyboard into something way more useful, with super fast editing, predictive typing, instant emojis and even beautiful themes.
It’s not exactly an easy task to text on an iPhone; the keyboard can do much more. If you look at any Android smartphone’s keyboard, you’ll see just how easy it is to use emoji’s, skins, swiping, and predictive typing — all things the Next Keyboard will add to the iPhone. But where the Next Keyboard differs is a cool smart cursor which allows for fast editing. Simply swipe the space bar over to where you want to begin typing, and you’re able to do so quickly, without tapping on the wrong spot. There’s also emoji suggestions, so it’ll replace certain words with emoji’s if you allow it to do so. The next keyboard also adds a shift lock key so you’ll always know when your shift is on or off.
And, interestingly enough, the Next Keyboard will also add unique keyboard sounds so that users can “hear which keys [they] tap with our custom sounds.” Although, I’m not sure if anyone actually leaves that annoying clicking sound on anyway. Next Keyboard is currently being funded on Kickstarter, and has already more than quintupled its initial $10,000 goal. Extra nerdy Kickstarter video aside, the Next Keyboard looks like it’ll be an important asset to iPhone and iPad users in the near future. In fact, they’re looking to have it on the app store by the end of February 2015.
