Adding an extra display to your work space increases productivity by up to 48%, which is why some ex-Apple engineers have created Duet, an app that allows you to use your iPad or iPhone as an extra display for your Mac using the Lightning or 30-pin cable. The only thing you have to do is simply download the app from the Apple Store.

Duet is compatible with all Macs that have OS 10.9 and all iPads and iPhones that use iOS 7.0 or higher. It delivers a retina display at 60 frames per second with no lag so that you can beautifully extend your desktop space for higher productivity. You need to download the app on your iPad and then download the companion app for your Mac. Your iPad will also charge while it’s connected to your Mac. Be warned, though, it doesn’t support the 10.10.2 OS X beta. For now, the app only supports one extra display, so if you were thinking of adding two iPads to your desktop, well, you can’t.

You can download Duet here for $9.99 (it will be $14.99 in the future). According to their FAQ, there is a Windows version of the app on the way as well.
